(30 Days) Tasks Not Meaning, 2017 is a perfomance that took place from January-February of 2017. Every morning I wrote a protest slogan in water and filmed it evaporating. The time-lapse video is the result. This project was inspired by my continuous participation in various protest in Los Angeles, and seeing all the hand written signs in the trash afterwards. I proceeded to documented this with a 35mm camera.
(30 Days) Tasks Not Meaning continues the artist theoretical interest in the psychological aspects of language, the symbolic violence contained within semantics
"Language is violent because it reduces the complexity of reality whilst simultaneously imbuing it with new symbolic complexities, which force reality into an external field of meaning...There is always something more violent at stake when it comes to symbolization: hierarchy, demarcations, and reduction/condensation." - Slavoj Zizek's Violence (2009).
