(30 Days) Tasks Not Meaning (2017) is a performance that took place from January to February 2017. Each morning, Moreno wrote a
protest slogan in water and filmed it evaporating. The resulting time-lapse video documents the impermanence of language and the fleeting
visibility of political expression. The project grew out of Moreno's ongoing participation in protests across Los Angeles and the observation
of handwritten signs discarded afterward. The work was documented using a 35mm camera.
"Language is violent because it reduces the complexity of reality whilst simultaneously imbuing it with new symbolic complexities, which
force reality into an external field of meaning... There is always something more violent at stake when it comes to symbolization: hierarchy,
demarcations, and reduction/condensation." — Slavoj Žižek, Violence (2009)
